Through the vanpool program, commuters in the Baltimore region now qualify for a $500 monthly incentive. (MDOT)

Baltimore-region commuters now have a new option to improve their trips to work. The Maryland Department of Transportation, in partnership with Commuter Connections, has introduced the new Baltimore Vanpool Incentives Program – a convenient and affordable option that will help ease traffic congestion.

Through the vanpool program, commuters in the Greater Baltimore region now qualify for a $500 monthly incentive, which is funded by MDOT and administered by Commuter Connections, to encourage Baltimore-area commuters to start or join a vanpool. To qualify, vanpools must:

  •  Have a destination in the City of Baltimore, or Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard, and Queen Anne’s counties
  • Start their trip in any of the above locations or anywhere in Maryland, the District of Columbia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or Delaware
  • Register with Commuter Connections and have an active contract with Commuter Connections (current authorized vanpool providers/operators include: Commute with Enterprise)
  • Meet monthly capacity and reporting requirements
  • Not participate in another regional vanpool incentive administered by Commuter Connections

Commuters can choose an available qualifying vanpool vehicle from a selection of Commute with Enterprise makes and models, including crossovers, SUVs, minivans and large passenger vans. Each vanpool rider pays a portion of the total cost, which covers all expenses such as gas, insurance, maintenance, and repairs. Commute with Enterprise also provides 24-hour roadside assistance. They are one of the largest vanpool providers in the country, and currently the only approved provider of vanpools for the program.
