The Maryland Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) Commuter Choice Maryland Program’s recently reached 100 partners in the Employer Partner Program!

Maryland employers deserve to be recognized and supported in their efforts to improve their employees’ commutes, along with the use of sustainable transportation. The Employer Partner Program, offered through Commuter Choice Maryland, does just that.

MDOT’s program recognizes and supports employers for their leadership in promoting commuter incentives that reduce traffic, improve air quality and boost the local economy. Commuter Choice Maryland also guides folks to existing incentives and resources, as well as helps employers in exploring new employer-based opportunities.

So far in 2026, 103 businesses, organizations and agencies are taking advantage of the benefits this free program has to offer.

Employers see a number of benefits for their businesses and employees through the program. Those benefits include increased employee satisfaction and retention. Commuter Choice representatives provide partners with free assistance on all things related to sustainable commuting. The team can assist employers with developing commuter surveys, analyzing travel trends, setting up customized transportation solutions that address their employees’ commuting challenges and applying for the Maryland Commuter Tax Credit.

Being an partner is easy. It also comes with the benefit of having your organization featured on the Commuter Choice Maryland website, newsletters and social media, if the partner wants. There are also opportunities to showcase your business’ success during a webinar.

For some businesses, offering and promoting commuter benefits can increase employee satisfaction and help retain talent. But don’t just take our word for it. Hear what some of our long-time partners have shared about how the program has benefited their business and employees.

The Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) has seen its telework program support the recruitment and retention of employees in a sector that typically experiences high turnover. Three-quarters of SMECO employees use Commuter Choice programs, which can help reduce the environmental impact of their commutes while improving their quality of life.

Another partner, OFFICENSE, offers a monthly commuter credit for workers who commute using transit to their office in Downtown Baltimore. This incentive, which has a 100% participation rate, does more than cuts costs for staff. It also boosts morale, helping to maintain a high performing team. The company also benefits from the Maryland Commuter Tax Credit, allowing them to save about 50% of the cost of offering transit benefits.

Partnering with Commuter Choice Maryland can support regional sustainability goals while helping your organization to attract and retain talent and improve employee satisfaction. The program also helps reduce costs for both your business and your staff. Getting started is easy and our team can provide you with one-on-one support at each step of the process.
