Good news, Baltimore commuters! The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), in partnership with Commuter Connections, recently introduced the new Carpool Incentives Program, offering commuters in the Baltimore region an alternative to improve their trips to work.

In an effort to alleviate the congestion near the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge, while prioritizing safe, affordable and convenient commuting options, the MDOT Commuter Choice Maryland program is thrilled to now offer funding to reduce commuting costs and incentivize alternative options.

Through the Carpool program, participants who carpool to work in the Baltimore region now qualify for a $5 daily incentive! This 90-day special incentive program is funded by MDOT and administered by Commuter Connections to encourage Baltimore-area commuters to start or join a carpool.

To qualify, carpools must:

Have a destination in the City of Baltimore, or Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard, and Queen Anne’s counties

  • Start a trip in any of the above jurisdictions or anywhere in Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or Delaware
  • Register in the Carpool Rewards program
  • Consist of two or more registered commuters (students and unemployed adults are not eligible)
  • Not participate in another regional carpool incentive administered by Commuter Connections
